Wild Flower season 2013 in the Carson Pass area is starting early. Pictures here are from the hike I took on May 19th of the tiny wild flowers, and Meiss Meadows with no snow, from Schneider Cow Camp road up to Little Round Top. Have a great summer, John Voss, Caples Lake Resort.

Lake Thaw 99% on 4/30
Caples Lake was still about 80% covered in a thin sheet of ice on 4-29 It is going away quickly. 4/30 - the only ice I can see is on the eastern shore and in emigrant cove. There is lots of ice free water around the edges plenty of room to cast a line especially … Continue reading

Spring or Winter?
Winter weather came through again last night dropping 10 to 12 inches of fresh powder. The weather forecast indicates a high pressure system due in this week, bringing temperatures back up into the 60’s by the weekend. We are still expecting Caples Lake to thaw by mid May. Caples Lake early May thaw likely!
Here is a picture of Bear River Reservoir March 22, 2013. Bear is 24 miles west on Highway 88, toward Jackson at 6000 feet elevation. It thawed over a week ago. Historically Caples Lake has thawed about 6 weeks after Bear River Reservoir. This puts ice out at Caples Lake the first part of May. Which … Continue reading

Jans Turn!
Yesterday, our guests Jim and Jan Riley, from Lodi were out in their boat fishing, when Jan caught this nice 1 ½ lb German Brown trout trolling with flashers and a worm about 15 foot deep. Jim made our blog a couple weeks ago with his 2 lb Rainbow.
Chris’s first fish
