Caples General Store is fully outfitted with flies, bait, maps, rental boats, and more.
Hiking… There are miles, upon miles of trails just outside your door or within minutes of Caples Resort. With thousands of acres of national forest land and protected wilderness in all directions, the options are unlimited. Wildflowers and Fall colors… In summer the roadsides, trails, and meadows are overflowing with flowers. We can tell you where to find peak blooms and when. Fall brings an avalanche of red, yellow, and gold to take your breath away—even more spectacular when framed against the dark evergreens, mountain ridges, and endless blue skies. Definitely a photographer’s paradise!
Swimming/hot springs… The crystal clear waters of Caples Lake are ideal for swimming. If you’d prefer something a tad warmer, nearby Grover Hot Springs State Park features a naturally heated hot springs pool as well as a large regular swimming pool. Lovely park grounds offer wonderful picnic spots underneath the pines.
Lake kayaking and canoeing… Launch a kayak or canoe and explore Caples Lakes’ hidden coves. If you’re lucky, an osprey may dive down and catch a fish right in front of you! You can rent kayaks and canoes at the resort’s marina.
Mountain Biking… The area offers excellent, challenging mountain and road biking. Dirt roads leading to beautiful valleys and breathtaking vistas offer hours of pleasure. We can provide local maps to help you lay out your tour. Ambitious road riders can pedal up and down the route followed by the famed Death Ride, a grueling race over five mountain passes held annually in July.
Horseback riding… Experience the mountains the way it was done when the Pony Express rode through the region over a century ago.
White-water rafting/kayaking… The East Fork of the Carson, a short drive from Caples Lake Resort, offers exhilarating rides through rugged, rock-walled canyons from May to July, water level permitting. Directions are available from the staff.
Golfing… There are at least nine nearby Golf Courses within a 30 minute drive from Caples Lake Resort, for the golfing enthusiast.
